The IWC Masters Scholarships are prestigious scholarships awarded annually to high calibre candidates accepted into the Master of Integrated Water Management (MIWM) and who clearly demonstrate potential to become water leaders of the future. The International WaterCentre (IWC) will be offering up to 3 scholarships for international candidates including: up to 2 full tuition and full living costs scholarships (each valued at AU$89,811) covering tuition fees, living costs stipend, return flights to Australia, overseas student health cover and student visa. These scholarships will target future water leaders in developing countries in Asia-Pacific, Africa, South and Central America, Europe and the Middle East AND and one full tuition scholarship, valued at AU$50,776 including tuition fees and overseas student health cover. The Institute of Child Protection Studies (ICPS) has one full-time PhD candidature opportunity attached to a recently-funded ARC Discovery Grant. This project aims to better understand and address the tensions between the protection of children and young people and their participation in social research about sensitive issues. It will do this by exploring how ethics committees, parents, others gatekeepers and children themselves manage and navigate these tensions. It is being conducted in partnership with Southern Cross University, the University of NSW and the University of Melbourne. The project is led by Professor Morag McArthur.

Ochre Health Pty Ltd Scholarship

The Principal Supervisor is Professor Stephen Campbell who is based at the Institute of Population Health, Centre for Primary Care Manchester University, and is seconded to the University of Canberra 0.2FTE. The Supervisory panel will also include academic staff from the Health Research Institute at the University of Canberra and a representative from Ochre Health. The project: Factors that influence quality improvement in general practice will be undertaken with Ochre Health PTY at the University of Canberra. A stipend will be paid at the rate of $27,000 per annum. The stipend is tax-free. The successful candidate may be employed by Ochre Health for up to 1 day a week of paid work in addition to the scholarship. To apply candidates must submit a cover letter, full CV and academic transcript. Interviews will be held in mid June 2015. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake a PhD by thesis which includes a minimum of 4 first-author peer reviewed publications.

The Centre for Children with Complicated Lives and Their Families (C2LiFe) is seeking applicants for a PhD scholarship to work on a Virtual Reality (VR) training study in patients with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) and in related conditions. Specifically, the PhD candidate will investigate whether a novel training program using VR can promote significant improvement in motor control, skill, and everyday function. Using state of the art medical imaging techniques (including diffusion MRI and myelin mapping) and/or neurophysiological methods (including EEG and ERP), the PhD candidate will investigate whether changes in motor control and skill learning are supported by modulations in brain connectivity. These findings will directly inform the development of more effective neurorehabilitation strategies, particularly those enlisting VR technologies.

The focus of this research group is around the role that design plays in the development of maintenance of resilience in high-risk work environments both ship and shore-based. Our research is strongly applied, so the phd project will be linked with one or more of our funded research projects, but will generally make a contribution in "shaping the task for the person". Ongoing projects include: port operations - technological redesign to support pilot, VTS and tug cooperation, human performance measurement, human factors in naval architecture, decision-making in emergency management, safety systems and organisational culture, and strategic innovation in high-risk environments. Your background may be in psychology, ICT or engineering and your work experience might include previous time in the maritime industry in some capacity.

The project will make use of mixed-methodology and will use the socioecological model as a framework to examine the multiple levels of influence on strength training among older adults. Including individual factors (e.g. cost, motivation, intentions), social environmental factors (e.g. social support, perceived norms, modelling) & physical environmental factors (e.g. access to facilities) associated with strength training participation among adults aged 65+ years.

The PhD candidate will undertake research on a comparative project examining public and official attitudes to and the practice of Islamic criminal law and punishment, including blasphemy and morality laws and hadud punishments, in South East Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei). Postgraduate Scholarship on the Detection of Gene Doping in Thoroughbred Racehorses

This project has been developed by a consortium supported by Racing Australia (previously the Australian Racing Board) and will deliver a world first method for detecting gene doping in Thoroughbred racehorses. The candidate will develop validated molecular assays for the identification of transgenic DNA for specific candidate genes considered likely to be misused by participants who engage in doping. The successful applicant will work with experts in the detection of gene doping at the National Measurement Institute and equine geneticists at the Faculty of Veterinary Science, The University of Sydney. Applicants should have a science-based honours or masters degree in genetics, molecular biology or animal science. Experience in DNA analyses, including polymerase chain reaction (PCR), DNA extraction, electrophoresis and sequencing, and in the use of genetic databases would be an advantage.
