Cement Concrete and Aggregates Australia (CCAA) Scholarships

The Centre for Built Infrastructure Research (CBIR) at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) has secured sponsorship from Cement Concrete and Aggregates Australia (CCAA) to extend its construction materials research into three areas of Alkali Silica Reaction (ASR): 1. Novel identification of alkali-silica reactive aggregates 2. Prevention of ASR in structural concrete 3. Repair and rehabilitation of ASR-affected structures CCAA will fund two full-time CCAA PhD Scholars to join the CBIR Construction Materials research team to undertake this research.

The scholar will undertake quantitative analysis on an aspect of the CVD Inequalities project. The project uses large-scale Australian datasets to analyse variations in cardiovascular disease risk, incidence, healthcare and outcomes in relation to four key domains of disadvantage: socioeconomic status, Aboriginality, remoteness and mental health. Multiple sources are used to examine a whole-system perspective on factors contributing to CVD inequalities, from prevention and primary care through to acute care and secondary prevention. Working with researchers from a range of academic institutions and Project Partners - The Heart Foundation, Consumers Health Forum of Australia and the NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation - the project quantifies inequalities in these contributing factors to inform the prioritisation of interventions. The scholar will be located with the Chronic Disease Epidemiology Group at the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health.

The Telethon Kids Institute and the Queensland University of Technology have one full-time PhD candidature opportunity attached to an NHMRC Project Grant. This "Beyond Bullying: Positive Change for All" project aims to test the efficacy of a targeted intervention (Motivational Interviewing) as a school response to high school bullying incidents, thereby supporting adolescents to find their own reasons for change, in the context of a universal bullying prevention program, Friendly Schools Plus. This PhD can focus on motivational interviewing, program implementation, or bullying perpetration. A research background (1st Class Honours or research MA) in Psychology, Education or Health Promotion is preferred. Can be based in Brisbane or Perth. For the right candidate, we would consider modifying to a 2 year research Masters degree.

The project is based at the University of Newcastle. Kaytetye is a Pama-Nyungan language closely related to Alyawarr, Anmatyerr, and Arrernte, which together have been described as the Arandic subgroup. These languages offer a prominent challenge to universal theories of prosody, particularly the proposal that the basic syllable is CV.

The Postdoctoral Fellowship will be paid under ARC Discovery Project DP140100985. A full-time postgraduate scholarship is available for a suitably qualified candidate with a first class honours degree (or H1 equivalent result e.g. MPhil) to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in Pharmacy. This student will work on a project to compare regulatory safety advisories on medicines in Canada, Australia, the United States (US), and the European Union (EU) over a 10-year period, with the aim of identifying factors that lead to effective risk communication. This is a mixed methods study that includes a systematic review of the research evidence, key informant interviews, and controlled interrupted time series analyses to assess effects of regulatory advisories on prescribing. We will develop a database of regulatory risk communications within each region, and identify discordant cases for in-depth quantitative and qualitative analysis. For full details, visit webpage.
